Andries used Autodesk Revit Architecture for his final project. The design was then exported out to AutoCAD DWG format, where a laser cutter produced higly accurate components (ribs, beams, stairs etc.) directly from Andries drawings which he then used to build his scale model. This produced a very detailed and accurate model and in less time than the standard practice of using pens, rulers and scalpels etc.
This is a great example of how BIM really works and helps to speed up the design process - GREAT work Andries !!

Ian Tarboton
Ian Tarboton studies at the University of Kwazulu Natal. Finishing his third year this week.
The images attached show his most recent project designed and developed in Autodesk Revit Architecture 2009
The project was a hypothetical City Hall, the last project of the degree, and biggest of the year. The site was in Durban, where the surroundings provide a diversity in many ways. The goals were to see how we could respond to the urban nature of the city, the environment, and the culture of Durban. The requirements were for a multi purpose auditorium for anybody to use, a council chamber, restaurant, offices and 5 penthouse/VIP suites. The offices were for general use as well as the mayor, deputy mayor, city manager, and exco members.
