Revit the Frog

Check out this great resource site from my old colleagues in the UK

The site is administered by Autodesk Northern Europe AEC Technical Sales Team. The principle contributors are:

Simon Jones  - AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP and Navisworks.

Simon Gillis  - Revit Architecture and Ecotect.

Ralph Pullinger  - Revit Structure, AutoCAD Structural Detailing and Robot Structural Analysis.

Jack Strongitharm  - Civil 3D

Autodesk AEC for South Africa

"I love deadlines. I love the whooshing sound they make as they fly by."

Douglas Admas - The Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy

Sound familiar? then you need a solution from Autodesk

This site is administered by Autodesk Distribution for South Africa - Justin Taylor Specialist in Autodesk AEC solutions, original creator of Revitup SA and part time Jedi Knight - also major irritant to CLONE CADs

Now's the time for architects and engineers to start thinking innovatively about design:

  • Reduce building life cycle costs
  • Promote change in the industry through technology and ideas
  • Improve working conditions within the building environment
  • Reduce energy consumption
  • Improve natural lighting
  • Reduce green house gass emissions etc.
Project Butterfly

Project Butterfly is an Autodesk Technology Preview that enables AutoCAD® users to edit and collaborate on AutoCAD drawings through a Web browser. With Project Butterfly, AutoCAD users can share and work on DWGTM files with colleagues and clients from any computer with an Internet connection.

Share drawings with other people. View and edit DWGs without downloading any software, using just a Web browser.

Invite your project team to an online meeting where all sides can discuss and co-edit a drawing in real-time. Or browse through comments and changes on your own time.

Use Project Butterfly to collaborate with colleagues and clients. Anyone can access Project Butterfly, even if they don't have AutoCAD installed, and even if they don’t have a Project Butterfly account.

50% more productivity sound interesting?

"Being busy becomes part of a mindset detrimental to the forward progression of a company." Paul F Aubin

Life is hectic, workloads are increasing, deadlines are getting shorter........ we know how busy and stretched architects and design firms are these days. The only solution is to work 'smarter' and use tools that alleviate these pressures.

According to a recent user study, more than

half of firms using Autodesk Revit experienced productivity gains of greater than 50 percent, and 17 percent improved productivity more than 100 percent.

The question is can you afford not to move to Revit as your design software solution?

Darwin's Evolution 'CAD Style'

"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but rather the one most adaptable to change." - Charles Darwin

Still say "Yeah Revit looks good, but we will wait another year and see"

Most of us understand that evolution means change and associate Charles Darwin with the Theory of Evolution. For those of you who don't it's simple....

You see, the world changed and more advance greener frogs took over where this fellow just couldn't compete anymore ... it's an evolution thing. I'm sure you've heard of Darwin? He wrote a book on natural selection and survival of the fittest and stuff. Well turns out that one of Revit's ancestors who believed that 2D CAD was all he needed and that he didn't need to be green, didn't evolve and adopt new ways of working...and guess what? ....... he 'aint around no more.

Question is "Do you want to become extinct?"

BIM - Building Information Modelling

Building Information Modelling facilitates complex processes and analyses that were previously too laborious or expensive to perform. Autodesk's purpose-built BIM solution, supports key aspects of sustainable design and 'green' certification.

A major difference between Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD is that you work with true architectural models rather than geometry. This translates to increased design productivity because it allows you to switch from plan to 3D rendered view to schedule as you like.

Because you are creating a parametric building model when designing in Autodesk Revit, you can quickly make changes to your design and all dependencies automatically update, increasing the accuracy of your work as your design evolves.

For more information about building information modeling and Autodesk's strategy for the application of information technology to the building industry please read our white paper on the subject.

Design Brief 25

Autodesk Design Brief #25

It may have been President Obama's office that coined the phrase "Opportunities of crisis", but it's a term the South African architectural and construction sector is becoming familiar with as it grapples with today's challenges - environmental and financial.

Whose using Revit?

Want to know who is using Revit? This is a great concept developed by Steve Stafford: Revit Inside

Steve is collecting a list of all firms using Revit around the world who are open to collaborative design work. So if you ar using either Revit Architecture, Structure or MEP, why not join this rapidly growing list?
